Pastor Anthony Wheeler is honored to join the ministry team at Metropolitan SDA Church as an Assistant Pastor. Born and raised in Albany, New York, Pastor Wheeler was raised by his mother, Sister Anne Marie Schultz. With his mother being from Guyana, he deeply identifies with his Guyanese heritage. Growing up, he attended Capital City Seventh-day Adventist Church, where his roots in faith were shaped from an early age; participating as a Pathfinder, serving as an Assistant Pathfinder Leader, playing in the drum corps, and faithfully serving as an usher, deacon, and member of the AV team over the years.
After graduating high school in 2016 at the age of 17, Pastor Wheeler initially set out on a different path. At first, he studied culinary art then grew an interest in firefighting. Despite not originally envisioning pastoral ministry, he undoubtedly heard God’s call in 2022. Stepping out on faith, he returned to school at age 22 by relocating to Huntsville, Alabama, to attend Oakwood University. He graduated at age 27 in May 2026 with a Bachelor of Science degree with a concentration in Theology. During his undergrad studies, he was an intern at Mount Pisgah SDA Church in Gurley, Alabama, where he was ordained as an Elder in May 2026. Pastor Wheeler is currently continuing higher education in pursuit of a Master of Divinity through Andrews University.
Pastor Wheeler’s wife, Alle, was born in the Bronx and raised in New Hampton, New York. She is also of Caribbean descent, with parents from Saint Lucia and Antigua. Alle attended the University at Albany (UAlbany), where she earned both her Bachelor’s degree in Human Development and Psychology and her Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling. It was during her time in Albany that she met Pastor Wheeler. What started as a close, meaningful friendship grew over time, eventually leading to their marriage on September 24, 2023.
Together with their dog, Cooper, the Wheelers are excited to embrace this new chapter with the Metropolitan family. Self-proclaimed food connoisseurs and adventure seekers, Pastor Wheeler and Alle love exploring new dishes and embarking on new adventures together. Outside of ministry, Pastor Wheeler is an avid sports fan with a broad love for basketball and football. He also holds a particular passion for fitness, working out, reading, and engaging in anything centered around self-improvement.
Having served in church leadership from a young age, Pastor Wheeler is passionate about building bridges across generations and creating a welcoming space for youth and young adults. He dreamed of becoming a firefighter, drawn to the idea of running toward danger to rescue and protect those in need. While God ultimately led him down a different path, that desire to save and serve was never lost; it was transformed. Rather than rescuing people from burning homes and emergencies, Pastor Wheeler now dedicates his life to pointing people toward the One who can save their souls: Jesus Christ. At his core, he wants every person to experience God’s radical love and find a genuine sense of belonging in the church body. He firmly believes in holistic ministry, ensuring people are nurtured spiritually, mentally, and physically so they can thrive in every area of life. Anchoring his life and journey in faith is his favorite Scripture, Romans 8:28, which reminds him that God works all things together for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purpose.
